Does getting car insurance quotes lower your credit score?

July 5, 2009

I was wondering if getting multiple insurance quotes can significantly lower your FICO score due to inquiries..especially if you have a limited credit history..

NO. They oftentimes check your credit, but it is considered a "soft inquiry" which does not lower your score. It is like a utility company checking your credit.

I’ve found some helpful info here too:

Take care.

No. It’s called a soft hit which means that it does not show up on your credit, nor does it affect your credit.

No. Although auto insurers check your credit report, such checking is not considered an application for credit (which can lower scores).
