Online Auto Insurance Quotes, are they really safe and accurate?

July 19, 2009

I know several people who have submitted their information into one of the many "online auto insurance quotes" and now they have solicitors all over them, on their phone, emails, junk mail and even one case of Social Security Identity theft. So my question is: Are these online auto insurance quotes really safe? Doesn’t it make sense to stay with a local auto insurance agent you can do business with either on the phone or in person.

Stick with the major carriers websites. Avoid web sites not associated with a major carrier that offer comparative quotes. The quotes you receive will be estimates and the result will be that the policy will not be issued at the price that was quoted.

Here you can get quotes from different auto insurance companies in your area, its the best way to find an affordable auto insurance with a reliable company.

Right, those websites make their money, by harvesting personal information and selling it to agents as leads.

The quotes aren’t particularly accurate, either.

Yes, it makes more sense to deal with a local agent, in a real office.

Yes, some auto insurance quotes online are safe. It’s best to go through the actual insurance company’s website. These companies have secure sites so your information is safe.

Best bet is to go straight to the insurance company website and not through a third part website.
