Technically, you can’t. If you don’t own it, you have no insurable interest in it. There are lots of people out there who do it, and get away with it. However, once your company finds out you are not the owner they will cancel your vehicle off the policy, or cancel your policy. The insurance on the vehicle now may not even cover you because if you were given the keys and started making payments on the vehicle legally that meets the definition of transfer of ownership, and the car is no longer that person’s vehicle. You should get this title/registration issue taken care of asap so you can honestly be insuring the vehicle when you do.

put somebody elses name down they won't know the difference

You should be able to take a bill of sale and/ir a payment contract along with your vin number to your agent and you should not have any problems.Plus if there are any problems your aganet will tell you what you need and help you.Congrats on the new car!!!

just take the registration in with you insurance companies don't really care who's name it is in as long as they make money

You could always ask the person that owns it to get coverage for any driver and you will pay the difference.

you should be able to get insurance anyway. They go by vin and your info not by who owns it.
